  About CASSI

CASSI Engineering is incorporated in the Province of British Columbia, Canada by Khosro Kabiri, with comprehensive business liability insurance. CASSI Engineering has the capacity to complete projects of varying sizes effectively due to our networking with experienced professionals in industry and academia. We are flexible, responsive, and able to deliver high quality work in an efficient manner.

Dr Kabiri is a graduate of the University of British Columbia (UBC) Power Engineering program, and a registered professional engineer in the Province of British Columbia. He has worked in the industry for many years (since 2005) in different roles such as technical team leader, study engineer, application engineer, researcher, programmer, and technical marketer. He has worked in Canada and Germany and traveled for work to different countries in North and South America, Asia, and Europe. He is very familiar with both the electromechanical and electromagnetic transients simulation techniques. He is proficient in using several software pacakges including PSS/E, PSCAD/EMTDC, RSCAD, DIgSIENLT PowerFactory, ASPEN, TARA, and DSATools.

Below is a select list of successfully delivered projects as well as our areas of expertise:

  • Power flow and short circuit analyses
  • Renewable farm integration system impact study
  • Insulation coordination
  • Transient recovery voltage
  • Transformer and line energization
  • Subsynchronous resonance study (torque amplification, frequency scan, damping torque coefficient, unit interaction factor)
  • Training on software application (DigSilent PowerFactory, RSCAD, DSATools)
  • Model conversion between software platforms
  • Commissioning Real-Time Digital Simulator (RTDS)
  • Testing relays including IEC 61850 GOOSE messaging on RTDS
  • Distance protection coordination on a medium voltage transmission system
  • Design and simulation of subsynchronous resonance damping controller for Thyristor-Controlled Series Capacitors
  • Design and implementation of a three-phase PWM inverter using power MOSFETs and DSP for an induction motor drive for UBC power electronics laboratory
